Prayer update February 5, 2008

One of the reasons I started this blog is because people would say, O you must just send us a quick email or sms with specific prayer requests! – and I always plan to do that, and yet the next thing I know a situation has already changed before I let anyone know of things going on. So without posting prayer requests continually, I hope this might be a way for people to become aware of the more mundane things that are important, but for various reasons perhaps don’t make it to the newsletter. Concerns that you can pray for right now:

§        Building plans – Dr Woodrow has decided to go ahead and start building some medical rooms on the property, so if all goes well construction will start in March, I think. Please pray that the Lord will guide us in all such plans, enable Dr Woodrow to get back into practical medical work, and ultimately extend this work to the completion of the hospital.

§        Car concerns – I simply can’t decide what to about a car. The Toyota I’m using guzzles petrol, quite often has problems (like right now) and is too frail to take on any of the rough roads. Mostly I can get by with chapas and rides from others, until a situation comes along where I really need a car! I need to therefore decide whether it would be best to continue with the situation as it is, explore the possibility of buying another car (probably not within my financial reach right now! J ), or maybe buy a little scooter.

§        Wisdom in Fiel work – I’m visiting churches, meeting pastors, and yet it’s going to take more than these quick encounters to truly build relationships with people. And yet some days I don’t know where the time is supposed to come from! I need to plan my days well.

It’s hard to keep track, since most days are so hot, but I would venture to say that Sunday and Monday were the two hottest days I’ve experienced since being back. The brakes of the car I’m using are giving me trouble, so it’s chapas all the way, and just from the 7 minutes from the Woodrows’ to where I got the chapa on Sunday after church I burned so much! Yesterday I was better prepared – I got some new capulanas on Saturday and am now using one, Mozambican style, to cover my shoulders and arms. When I wear a hat as well (less often), with this colourful piece of material flapping like a cape in the breeze, I’m sure I look really ridiculous, but somehow you stop caring about that when the sun is this bad! J  I finally feel like work is coming together just a bit – last week when Dr Woodrow and I met up for the first time after his trip to Zambia, I felt overwhelmed for days. But little by little things become more organized, and working from home some days definitely helps, so I’m grateful to the Lord that for now the panicky feelings have subsided a bit and I can simply enjoy my job and feel we’re doing something worthwhile. Amidst the chaos that sometimes reigns, a great blessing in my life is my new language helper, David – last week was very disorganized and we almost didn’t meet at all, but every time I’ve seen him I truly feel it’s been worthwhile and I’ve learned something. He really is good at helping me with more advanced grammar, and now it only remains for me to make disciplined time for self-study.
