Salomé’s news from Nampula

The day-to-day of ministry in Nampula, Mozambique

My name is Salomé van Niekerk and I’m 27 and single. I studied at the Afrikaans Baptist theological seminary in Kempton Park, South Africa, from 2001 until 2004 and ever sinee my final year have wanted to be involved with missions in some way. My desire to possibly work with SIL in Bible translation led me in a roundabout way to using my (limited, believe me) administrative skills to come and help Dr Charles Woodrow, from Grace Missions (see page), out with his backlog of admin from February until August of 2007. I was so happy doing that, though, that I wanted to return and thus did, by the Lord’s grace and guidance, in January 2008.

Basically I am Dr Woodrow’s administrative assistant and also am involved with ministries connected with Editora Fiel, a Reformed publishing house in Brazil. This involves managing a bookstore we have downtown, mailing books to pastors who are on a reading programme called the Adopt a Pastor Project and helping to organise an annual pastors’conference. I’m very passionate about Biblical and theological literacy and hope that eventually the bookshop with have an impact on many local pastors’ ministries. Other than that I am still learning Portuguese, live in an apartment downtown, go to a multicultural cell group, and attend the church at Dr Woodrow’s, though there isn’t any ministry for me to be involved with there at the moment, which is a pity.
